The risks (and hidden costs) you run when ordering custom t-shirts or bags from China.
Low-cost custom T-shirts , bags, and other products imported from China are often tempting for those looking for a nice product but also willing to pay very little. The risks involved are numerous, and it's best to consider them all before making a bad purchase.
What does it mean to buy custom Chinese T-shirts?
Many items of clothing for sale in Italy are illegally imported from China (or other countries) and sold at extremely low prices. Not only that, but numerous online stores ship directly from the People's Republic of China, making T-shirts, dresses, bags, and much more easily accessible to everyone. In this case, we're not talking about clothing produced in China, but commissioned and distributed by well-known stores. These products must strictly comply with Italian regulations regarding fabric quality, chemical composition of colors, and so on. What are the implications of purchasing products directly from Chinese websites or, even worse, sold in Chinese clothing stores? Let's not tar everyone with the same brush, but you should pay close, very close attention to the following aspects:- Counterfeiting of products;
- Materials used to make the garments;
- Chemicals used to dye and treat Chinese clothing;
- Products completely different from what is shown online;
- Unexpected taxes;
- Copyright infringement on t-shirt prints and other garments.

Chinese T-shirt materials and chemicals
Think Chinese custom t-shirts are made and treated with products that are safe for your skin? Forget it. Many of the very cheap t-shirts imported from China are made with low-quality materials (in this case, be wary of 100% cotton labels…) and treated with dyes and other chemicals unsuitable for skin contact. Wearing these garments can not only cause allergies, irritation, and dermatitis, but can even cause skin poisoning. Consider aromatic amines: these substances are released by azo dyes used in low-quality garments and are unfortunately extremely carcinogenic. These dyes are banned in Europe, but unfortunately, it's virtually impossible to inspect every garment from Chinese online stores or imported illegally. While amines are the most common substances found in Chinese clothing, garments are often also contaminated by the following:- dimethyl fumarate, an extremely toxic anti-mold (and also banned in Europe),
- chlorophenols, powerful pesticides,
- phthalates, highly toxic chemicals especially for children.
