In this article, we'll reveal Burger Print 's tricks that finally answer the question all our customers ask: How do I properly wash screen-printed T-shirts so the graphics don't fade over time? Before providing complete instructions, a preliminary remark is in order: if the screen printing has been done properly, it's unlikely to fade, despite numerous washes! However, to keep the print's colors bright, sharp, and uniform, it's advisable to follow these tips.
Washing instructions
First, you need to check the washing instructions on the label sewn inside the garment. Below is a simple summary that will help you identify the most common symbols and their meanings.
Temperature
It's crucial not to overdo the washing temperature. Labels typically indicate a recommended washing temperature between 30° and 40°. We recommend using 30° as a general guideline and never exceeding 40°. In fact, increasing the temperature risks ruining not only the print, but also the garment itself, which could be damaged by overly aggressive washing.
Wash the garment inside out
A little trick to best preserve the print is to wash the product inside out, so that the print doesn't rub against other garments during washing. Jeans and trousers, being stiffer and having metal accessories (like buttons), can damage or tear the print.
Don't mix colors
Especially for the first few washes, we recommend not mixing whites with colors: for this reason, the very first wash should be done in cold water, so as to favor the dispersion of the dyed garment's color in the water and the fixation of the print on it.
Bleaching, spin drying and drying
We do not recommend bleaching screen-printed garments, as the print can easily be damaged. It is also best not to spin or tumble dry them, as both can damage the print and cause wear and tear on the fabric.
Ironing
The inks used by Burger Print for screen printing are plastic-based; therefore, if heated excessively, they can melt and be damaged. We recommend ironing the garment inside out and at a low temperature, and avoiding prolonged ironing of the printed area. If possible, we recommend placing an additional cloth between the iron and the garment to prevent shiny marks or streaks.
