affordable custom t-shirts at home, perhaps with the goal of saving money? Personalizing t-shirts at home doesn't actually offer that many advantages. In fact,
there are many valid reasons why we don't recommend it! Let's explore them in the following paragraphs.
Printing t-shirts at home doesn't mean you save a lot of money.
If your goal is to save money, know that
you won't actually be printing your T-shirt at home for a single euro. Here's everything you'll need:
- A basic, plain T-shirt. The price of these shirts usually increases depending on the color (a white one tends to cost less than a colored one), but generally ranges from 3 to 5 euros per item. This cost also increases depending on the style of the T-shirt: a V-neck one costs more than a plain one… Not to mention women's models, which are tighter than men's and therefore more expensive due to their particular cut;
- one or more sheets of fabric transfer paper (a pack of 3 usually costs around 10 euros);
- a printer, which you'll use to print your image onto the transfer paper. If you don't have one, you're unlikely to pay less than 50 euros for one, and we're certainly not talking about super-premium printers;
- printer ink cartridges, which cost around 10 euros each;
- an iron, to use on the transfer paper.
As you can see,
home printing might seem cheaper than in-store printing, but it isn't. You should also multiply the price of the T-shirt, paper, and cartridges by 2 or 3, because printing isn't guaranteed to be successful the first time! This is the second disadvantage of custom T-shirt printing at home.
The quality of home t-shirt printing is usually not great.
Before printing t-shirts at home, you need to know the perfect quality and size for an image, otherwise you risk ruining your job and having to redo it over and over again. It's not nice to walk around with a
t-shirt with a grainy, incomprehensible print and the wrong colors , right? At

screen printing and direct digital printing ,
which are impossible to achieve at home unless you have professional equipment (and if you're reading this article, we highly doubt it). It's very likely that images printed on T-shirts using an iron will literally melt in the washing machine, even if washed at 30°C.
